How to Evaluate Exchange Security

No centralized cryptocurrency exchange is completely risk-free. Evaluating security requires moving beyond marketing claims and analyzing architectural implementation.

  • Proof of Reserves (PoR): Cryptographic proof that an exchange holds the assets it claims. (Note: PoR is not a comprehensive financial audit and does not prove lack of hidden liabilities).
  • Account Security: Mandatory 2FA, Passkey support, Withdrawal Whitelisting, and Anti-Phishing codes.
  • Custody Architecture: The ratio of Cold Storage (offline, secure) to Hot Wallets (online, required for liquidity).

Liquidity & Fee Structures

Headline fees alone do not represent total trading cost. A platform with zero fees but thin order books will cost a trader significantly more in Slippage than a platform with a 0.1% fee and deep liquidity.

Fee tiers vary radically based on: Maker/Taker status, 30-day trading volume, VIP tiers, and native token holdings. Furthermore, regional jurisdictions dictate product availability—Spot markets may be accessible while Derivatives (Futures/Options) are heavily restricted.

Note: Fees listed in the profiles below represent Standard / Non-VIP base rates for Spot trading as verified in 2026. Fees may vary by jurisdiction and are subject to change.
